The Uros consists of a base of majestic blocks of tortora (bulrush-roots) which subvert and produce gases that cause the flotation. The inhabitants of the Uros cut and replace the tortora every 30 days leaving anchorages of sticks crossing under the ground of the island. The Uros Floating Islands are located in the Puno Bay, 3 miles from the Puno Harbor, south east of Puno.
